“Growing sales killed my business.”

It was sad.. resigned..

And his voice has been in my head since the event..

John had followed the playbook he was taught to the letter.

Grind…. Hustle….. grind some more.

His marketing agency began in fits and starts… and then rocketed to his first 7 figures.

His niche client base were small automotive centres.

Things were good.

But John wanted more.

His Marketing partner wanted to focus on doubling sales by attracting the more savvy and younger generation surrounding them.

And so they threw their name on all types of causes and virtue signalled wherever possible.

And new clients began signing up…..

But only after the discounts and flash sales convinced them to sign the dotted line.

So it “worked”

Sales did double but on a slippery slope.

Margins collapsed.

Complaints flew.

And John found himself working harder than ever as his stress flew through the roof.

And it got worse and worse…

The automotive centres felt alienated and took their business and margins elsewhere.

The Discounting become endemic.

Desperate….John took on more and more bad work and clients.

Chasing volume instead of value.

Was this real growth and progress John asked himself?

He received the answer when he tried to sell and no one cared to touch his business.

Why?

Because the business didn’t work without John pushing every lever himself.

The margins were a mess.

The client base was picky and unstable.

And most damning….

the “growth” had no equity behind it.

If your business only survives when you are selling, fixing, closing, chasing…

You don’t own an asset.

You own a job dressed as a treadmill.

So here is your question for today:

If you stopped pushing for 30 days, would the business keep thriving and running?
