At 2:30 AM I woke up to check my phone.
A 2 week cease-fire was announced.
An era was ending here in Dubai.
One where for those of us who stayed through the entire war was a surreal period where the city in some ways became amazing.
Light traffic. Venues remained open with no booking difficulties.
Our kids kept playing outside oblivious to what was happening except for the random booms here and there which one day lined up with a massive thunderstorm so saying it was thunder wasn’t technically a lie.
But what I observed was that business in some cases continued and in fact obstacles were removed to doing deals.
The opportunists, the fake it till you make it hustle bros were long gone… tail between their legs… prostrating themselves for silly western reporting making it seem like they survived Apocalypse now for the sake of likes and views.
An Emirati friend of mine summed it up.
“Now is the time to do business. The fakers are long gone… the genuine business people are looking to get things moving.”
Is this war really over?
Who knows?
But is life continuing?
Yes and hopefully a new era of peace can finally arrive where both ancient and modern civilisations can achieve their true potential.
What does this have to do with your business?
Nothing …. And everything…
At least a reminder that life happens and when it does – owning a business that isn’t a job and that can thrive without you could mean everything to you and your loved ones.

George Sotiropoulos, founder of Sophiall, reflects on the ceasefire announcement in Dubai and what the war period revealed about business resilience, opportunism versus genuine entrepreneurship, and why building a business that operates independently of the owner matters most when life throws the unexpected at you. This connects to his programme End Burnout — Fall in Love with Your Business Again which helps 7-figure SME owners transform owner-dependent businesses into sellable, resilient assets
