“NEXT HUGE THING”
“We’re looking for 500k to finish the MVP.. if we just get 1% of the market you will have made 10,000x the investment…”
Old message from an ex colleague of mine
Looking for funding.
He never got it.
The idea was sound.
They had some sort of track record but they didn’t raise the money because the business was not geared for investment.
It was set up to give a paycheque and not much more.
Now his deck was beautiful.
The graphics were sharp, the design was slick, and it sold the dream well.
But none of that is what an investor is actually asking.
And his deck never answered the questions that really matter.
- Is my money in safe hands? That is not the same as asking whether the investment is safe or risky. An investor will knowingly back real risk for the promise of a bigger return. What he will not back is someone who looks reckless, naive, or not ready to handle his money.
- Am I excited about this, and about what it could mean for me?
- Does this survive if the founders disappear for ninety days?
- Is this an asset my team and I can take over cleanly, or a project we will have to get the toolbox out and fix?
He could not answer a single one of them at the time.
But he will know how to next time. Once End Burnout, Fall in Love with Your Business launches after Halloween, he will know exactly what his next venture needs to finally get the yes he is after.
Do you know what is needed?
If not, keep an eye on this space.
