You have heard me talk a lot about cheapskates, discount zombies, and clients who just want to rip you off or get you working for free.
Only last week I told you about the dentist who wanted months of an M&A specialist’s work to sell his company, all for a payoff that might turn up right at the very end.
(Might as well ask the guy to crawl ten kilometres through the desert for the reward of squeezing a damp towel into his mouth.)
So let me be clear about where I stand. Pricing has to be smart, and it has to reflect who you are and the outcomes you deliver.
Often that means you are the more expensive option, and if your experience delivers, you are worth every penny.
But none of that matters unless you actually deliver the experience you are charging for.
So let me tell you about my week.
It is October, and it is still hot and humid here, which is exactly when our AC flashed a CH04 error and shut down.
I called around and got two quotes, both on the expensive side. But I looked at what they were promising, top notch work and a proper fix, and I thought, to heck with it, let us go for it.
So I booked one of them with a single clear instruction. They had to remove and clear the drain tray, because that is what makes the CH04 error go away.
They quoted me a price, I agreed, and away we went.
And tomorrow, I will tell you exactly where that got us.

P.S. Is your pricing a feather in your cap, or a quiet trap? Worth knowing. And if you would like a snapshot of the other traps that might be lurking in your business, the Buyer’s Verdict will show you. Take it here.
