“Sarah Connor?”
(Insert heavy Arnold Austrian accent.)
“Yes…”
That moment in The Terminator when you realise this machine will do anything — absolutely anything — to get rid of the human on the other side of the door.
Welcome to Business in 2025.
Remember when “premium banking” actually meant something?
A relationship manager — your Sarah Connor — who knew:
- your business cycles
- your kids’ names
- your annual cash crunch
- and could approve a bridge loan with one call
Now?
“Press 1 for account balance.”
“Press 2 for credit cards.”
“Press 7 for more options.”
“I’ll be back…” — line disconnects.
And when they finally answer?
A call-centre operator who knows less about your account than your dog.
This is what billions in “digital transformation” bought us:
Not efficiency.
Not service.
Not intelligence.
Algorithms murdering relationships.
Like a T-800 hunting down every living human banker left in the building.
The personal banker who used to prevent problems? Terminated.
The direct phone line you relied on during crises? Terminated.
The person who actually cared? Terminated.
All in the name of “efficiency”.
And here’s the beautiful irony…
Banks saved millions in salaries.
And opened up billions in opportunity for boutique firms who still… you know… answer the phone.
But let’s zoom out.
Because what kills me isn’t the banks.
It’s how many business owners are copying the exact same suicidal playbook.
Automating the human touch.
Replacing care with convenience.
Cutting the one thing customers actually come back for — the feeling that someone, somewhere, gives a damn.
Your customers will forgive mistakes.
They’ll forgive wait times.
They’ll forgive imperfect processes.
But they will never forgive feeling neglected or invisible.
And no chatbot saying “please” and “thank you” will fix that.
So ask yourself:
If billion-dollar banks can’t figure out that relationships matter more than algorithms…
Why the hell are you copying them?
Because unlike the Terminator…
your customers won’t give you a second chance.
They won’t wait for you to say “I’ll be back.”
They’ll be gone long before you even realise they’re missing.
