I was running a Bx networking event last week and one of the guests started giving me a hard time when I was presenting myself, my business and why I do what I do.
And the fact is that the hard time he was giving me…. Invaluable?
Why?
Because he wasn’t understanding the point I was making and he was letting me know in a direct and somewhat aggressive way.
Now I love getting challenged like this so I literally rolled up my sleeves and jumped into a debate with him.
And we both had a great time
And then the meeting moved on
Towards the end of the meeting I thanked him for doing what he did.
Why?
Because I wasn’t being clear.
I wasn’t communicating what I wanted to communicate.
And he was probably the first of many dozens who called me on it.
Which told me two things.
One, many people receptive to my messaging were being deprived of hearing what I had to say by my unclear wording.
