Over the holidays I caught up with some reading including Dan Kennedy.

He talked about Good Enough.  How to not waste time and money trying to transform something good enough into absolute perfection.

He spoke about a sales team and I could swear he was talking about an ex team of mine.

A team I started from scratch with a new business.

We were so new there was no way we could hire experienced sales people to join us.

So we built from the bottom up.

I spoke to my clients and found out what they wanted and we built a $1.5 million team in 11 months.

We weren’t perfect but we were tight and complemented each other extremely well.

I created the structure and the “brand” of our team and key deep relationships.

My colleagues were the local speakers and gave the local flavour our local clients wanted and made it possible to expand.

We weren’t perfect and we probably had days we could have done better but overall we were profitable and on the way to positioning ourselves to lead our segment within 5 years.

But your boss was an old school sales guy.

The you have to close deals every day type of guy.

The pressure guy and he sowed division and stress amongst us.

Eventually the team disintegrated and we all went out separate ways.

And the team members I brought on, mentored and trained..  developed into multi-million dollar assets for the competition.

It cost the ex boss millions and still does every year.

He wanted perfection but sowed chaos instead.

How about you ?
