This week I told you two stories.
The first was a man who threw a chair across a Greek café, danced a warrior dance, and then quietly told me over wine that the insights I’d shared these past few years played a big part in where he is today.
Where he is today: turning down an 8-figure offer — seven times what was on the table when we first started talking — because he knows the business is worth 40% more. Running it from wherever he wants. Free.
The second was a man who called me wanting to sell. A bad year. Shrinking numbers. Fear that everything he’d built was about to be worth nothing.
When we dug in, we found a business most owners dream of. Blue-chip clients. No-bid contracts. A reputation that opened doors competitors couldn’t even find.
He stopped talking about getting out at any price.
Instead, he’s expanding into an adjacent market with a new product line — one that only works because of the relationships and expertise his business already has. New clients and partners are coming through the door at the same time as potential buyers.
He’s still selling. But he’s doing it from a position of strength. Not a man trying to escape. A man with options.
He went from “get me out” to “they can come to me.”
Two different owners. Two different industries. Two different stages.
Same principles.
One built a business so valuable he can afford to say no. The other rediscovered a business so strong he gets to dictate terms.
Neither happened by accident.
It happened because they stopped thinking like operators and started thinking like investors. They focused on what actually drives value — niche, differentiation, the right customers, revenue that sticks.
And here’s the part that matters to you.
This isn’t their story. It’s the pattern.
Every owner I work with starts in one of two places. Either they’re stuck and want out. Or they’ve built something good but know it should be worth more.
The principles are the same either way.
The question is whether you’ll use them.
The principles behind both of these stories are exactly what I teach in Fall in Love with Your Business Again.
