Rebecca couldn’t sit still.

She was fidgeting across from me at morning coffee, clearly rattled.

She called me again last night..  ‘we need you to produce as I’m putting the whole company and my family’s future on the line with you..’

“I’ve told her a million times she cannot put all her marketing in one basket – especially me as the basket but she won’t listen..

“And she feels it gives her carte blanche to call me all times of the day or evening and weekends and I’m supposed to drop what I’m doing and speak with her….

“Miss her call and I hear again how everything is on me… and now she is asking for discounts”

I looked her direct in the eye.

“Rebecca…..FIRE HER”

“I can’t…. I mean she is a good percentage of my revenue..”

Right. The trap.

So I asked her:

“Ok and how much stress does she give you and your team? How many hours are you and your team spending on her?”

The results as Rebecca shared with me were brutal.

Then came the real question.

“Next month, if you had that time to focus on better serving your other clients and picking up new ones.. how much would that bring to your top and bottom line?”

Rebecca did the math

And fired the client.

We met for lunch 45 days later.

And I swear, she was a different person.

Relaxed. Radiant. Calm. It was like someone peeled five years of tension off her shoulders.

 

We had a record month,” she told me. “Three new clients. All better fits. All 20% more profitable than the one I let go — and even with onboarding, I’ve got more time.”

Let me ask you the same thing I asked her:

Are you stuck serving people who don’t deserve you — or are you choosing who gets access to your time and business?

If the answer makes your stomach turn, maybe it’s time for a shift.
