It’s been a great holiday.

The kids have stayed with both sides of the family — but sleeping?

A bit of a pain in the ass.

Because we’re not in our own beds.

Last night I kept waking up in a dead sweat — even though it was 15 degrees outside and the windows were wide open.

Turns out the sheets were not good and I was sleeping on a plastic mattress cover.

Which meant waking up nearly every hour, on the hour, feeling like I was trapped in a microwave.

And it reminded me of the first year or two of running my business.

Those nights I wasn’t kept awake by bad sheets — I was kept up by stress.

Strategising.

Worrying where the next month’s food would come from…

And wondering if I’d need to borrow just to make rent.

Dan Kennedy once said:

“If someone keeps you up in bed for three nights and they’re not your partner — fire them.”

For me, that someone was my business.

I gained weight.

Lost sleep.

Lost presence with my family.

And it took its toll.

Thankfully, those nights are behind me.

But they’re far too common for business owners.

If your business is keeping you up at night —

If you’re constantly thinking, worrying, reacting —

If you don’t have control over your time, your energy, or your attention —

Then it’s time to flip the dynamic.

Build a business that works for you.

That gives you control over how you spend your time.

Who you spend it with.

And what you spend it on.

Because isn’t that why you started this in the first place?

You don’t have to sell.

But you do have to sleep.
