Hi,

Discount Zombies are the bane of many business owners’ existence.

It’s hard to say if they are Zombies or more like vampires.. who suck the blood out of honest and hard-working business owners.

So who are they and how do you identify them?

Let me start by saying who they are not…

They are not poor people.

They are not the people in your market whose financial circumstances and distress mean they need to buy on price as a necessity.

Those are not zombies.

Those are people dealing with stress and other difficulties in their lives.

Discount Zombies on the other hand are the people who can afford your services but feel they need to “get one over you.”

That they need to brag to their friends how they squeezed you on price (incidentally they don’t brag on how they found someone excellent like you to solve their problem).

And you can spot them by how they interact with you on your product or service.

Wanting to buy a Ferrari but pressuring you to give it to them at the same price the Nissan Sunny sold in the flea market.

When I first started my business I had this with an event planner who bragged on one hand how well he was doing and then acted with shock when I told him my rate and said how he could hire staff in some outsourced country for that rate..   which I proceeded to tell him to do… before cutting the conversation short as he was wasting my time.

Now a note of warning.. 

If you make it easy to be shopped on price.. than the people badgering you for a discount might not necessarily be discount zombies.  They are just acting on the signals you communicated and how you commoditised yourself (this is a topic for another day).

Anyways, you will hear me use this term a lot.

Just remember Discount Zombies are those who want to rip you off by pressuring you to sell your invaluable expertise at a cheap commodity so they can exploit it and take all the value for themselves.

Send them back to where they come from…. Or better yet.. to your competitors.
