In business, it’s critical to find the time and make investments to personally enhance your knowledge, your skills, your world view, and ultimately your wisdom.

You do that and sometimes a nugget of information appears and its pure gold.

It can change your outlook, your practice, and ultimately your business and your life.

Dan Kennedy, (who I invest a great deal of time in his books and programs) says in his Direct Marketing Book that it all starts with the WHO, not WHAT.

What this means is to communicate clearly who you are and what you do so your WHO wants and prefers to do business with you.

(That was pretty much the basis for our differentiation series last wek).

When you’re not clear on the WHO.. then you will find it very difficult to have anyone listen and eventually buy from you.

For example, I had an ex-colleague reach out to me a few weeks back with “the deal of the century.”

It was my chance to get in “on the ground floor” of a $6 Trillion market opportunity

My ex-colleague unfortunately was very unclear on his WHO (why did he reach out to me when we haven’t spoken in 5 years.  If this is a true ground breaking opportunity he should already have had all his funding done through families and friends).

Instead what that desperation communicated to me was that this harebrained concept, his WHAT, was so poorly executed no one wanted to touch it with a 10-foot pole and he was scraping the bottom of the barrel hoping to use cheap salesmanship to get money.

I never did hear back from him.. and I suspect he is pursuing something more tangible and real.

So who is your WHO?
