Dave took a holiday this summer. At least that was the plan.
Two weeks in Greece, phone in the drawer, the family finally getting the version of him they had been asking for.
He lasted three days.
By the fourth morning he was back in the hotel room, laptop open, walking a rattled team through a problem that only he knew how to solve. His wife watched him work through another dinner.
Somewhere in that call he admitted the thing he had been dodging for years.
He did not own a business. He owned a job that happened to employ other people.

A business you own keeps running when you are not there.
A job stops the moment you do.
Most owners never learn which one they built on purpose. They find out by accident, through a holiday that collapses inside 72 hours, or a week in bed while the business nearly falls on its face.
Then they try to fix it, usually in the slowest and most expensive way going.
You can skip all of that and run the test deliberately instead. Picture yourself gone for two weeks, properly unreachable. Would the business keep thriving and serving customers without you, or would it flop around and beg you to come back?
If you already know the answer, that is not a failure. It is the most useful thing you will learn all year.
