This week had a theme about owners breaking their own businesses …
Slowly, unintentionally, and with the best of intentions.
Monday we met Skinny-Leg Arm Curl Guy at the gym.
All arms. No legs. No base. No future.
A perfect picture of what happens when owners obsess over one lever such as leads, cost-cutting, hustle, and long hours and ignore more important foundations.
Tuesday we walked through a typical Letter of Intent (LOI) booty call.
Champagne. Celebration. The buyer on one knee.
But an unprepared business is an easy one to toy with and so we end up with an emotional muddy tunnel, a series of disappointments, and a very wounded jilted owner.
Wednesday was the lesson of the post-reunification surplus East German Lieutenant coat.
Brilliant product.
Completely wrong audience.
And how it reminded me of watching Seven-figure pitches falling flat because nobody was answering the fundamental question investors actually care about and trying instead to impress with the wrong tools and info.
Thursday we looked at good enough vs perfection.
And I shared how a profitable $1.5M team that had been built fast but imperfect was ultimately destroyed by a boss chasing unicorns instead of stability.
How by chasing perfection he reaped chaos instead and single handedly staffed his competitors with high quality sales staff.
Different stories.
Same disease.
Chasing the wrong things.
Optimising the wrong metrics.
Ignoring the foundations.
Mistaking activity for progress.
That’s how a business slowly becomes heavier than when you started it.
That’s how owners wake up one day running something nobody wants to buy…
Including themselves.
This is exactly why I’m building Fall in Love with Your Business Again.
Not another shiny tactic.
Not more hustle bro theatre.
Just fundamentals that make a business lighter, stronger, calmer and actually more valuable and much more enjoyable for you to run.
